SERFOR AND TALMA JOIN FORCES TO PROMOTE LEGAL TRADE IN FOREST AND WILDLIFE PRODUCTS

Thanks to a strategic alliance, Talma will provide space in its facilities for product control and supervision.

In order to promote the legal trade in forest and wildlife products, and contribute to the protection and sustainable use of our biological diversity Talma, the leading company in airport services and a member of the Sandoval Group, has made a module within its facilities available to the National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) of the Ministry of Rural Development and Irrigation.

This space, granted for the first time to SERFOR's Technical Forestry and Wildlife Administration (ATFFS) Lima, is located inside Talma's cargo warehouses in its Callao and Iquitos premises.

Gastón Chucos Lazo, Director of SERFOR's Forestry and Wildlife Heritage Directorate, said that this initiative marks the beginning of collaboration with Talma to provide an efficient service in the control and supervision of shipments of forestry and wildlife products and by-products.

“This is a very important achievement to boost and promote international trade in wildlife products and specimens of legal origin that meet traceability requirements. With this collaboration we seek to guarantee the sustainable use of resources that are part of our natural heritage, as well as to improve attention and services provided to users," remarked Mr Chucos.

Carlos García León, Manager of Talma's Cargo Business Unit, said that the company receives around 65% of air cargo exports and 100% of cargo coming from the provinces. “SERFOR's service on Talma's premises is vital to expedite inspections and international trade, as it speeds up processes, the control and verification of resources received and distributed in and outside the country," he added.

“Talma and SERFOR are partners in the care, protection and sustainability of forest and wildlife species," remarked García León. Talma has facilities at 20 domestic airports and 50 stations in four Latin American countries, it is a strategic ally committed to the preservation of our country's biological diversity.

Last year SERFOR increased its monitoring of wild flora and fauna specimens protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), as well as exports of non-CITES species. To date, 4194 inspections of shipments have been carried out at the country's ports and airports.
