Talma Peru Handles Over 90,000 Flights and Moves More Than 160,000 Tons of Cargo in the First Year of the New Jorge Chávez International Airport
The company served more than 2 million passengers, carried out more than 90,000 aircraft maintenance services, managed over 1,000 executive flights, and delivered more than 354,000 man-hours of specialized training.
After investing more than US$30 million in infrastructure, equipment, and operational strengthening for its move to the new Jorge Chávez, Talma consolidated a year of operations supported by capabilities and resources designed to meet the demands of a world-class terminal.
One year after the start of operations at the new Jorge Chávez International Airport (AIJCH), Talma, a leading airport services company in Latin America and member of Grupo Sandoval, achieved significant results as the terminal’s main airport services operator, contributing to strengthening Peru’s air connectivity with the world.
During this first year, the company handled more than 90,000 flights, moved over 160,000 tons of air cargo, served more than 2 million passengers, and carried out more than 90,000 aircraft maintenance services. It also managed more than 1,000 executive flights and delivered more than 354,000 man-hours of training through Talma Training School (TTS), strengthening the competencies required for airport operations.
These results were supported by an investment exceeding US$30 million allocated to infrastructure development, technology integration, acquisition of specialized equipment, and consolidation of the operational capabilities needed to support the launch of the new airport.
As part of this deployment, Talma Peru implemented a new 3,900 m² Ramp Operations Base, a more than 700 m² workshop in the cargo area, new spaces for passenger services and aircraft maintenance operations, as well as offices dedicated to administrative and operational management.
Preparation for this new phase required an extensive process of planning and operational validation. In this context, the company delivered more than 26,000 hours of specialized training to its employees and participated in over 3,000 hours of operational testing, including more than 50 aircraft exercises, to ensure a safe, orderly, and efficient transition to the new terminal. It also carried out the transfer of more than 1,000 motorized and non-motorized units and towed more than 60 aircraft in less than 12 hours, helping ensure continuity of airport services during the migration to the new infrastructure.
“This first year has represented one of the greatest operational challenges in our company’s history. The transition to the new AIJCH required unprecedented technical, logistical, and human preparation to ensure a safe, efficient, and continuous operation from day one. The results achieved reflect the experience, capability, and commitment of our employees, who were essential in successfully supporting this new phase of air transport in Peru. During this first year, we successfully addressed the challenges inherent to infrastructure of this magnitude and to an operation in the process of consolidation—an experience that now allows us to continue raising our operational standards and prepare to support the industry’s future growth”, said Edgardo Carbonel, General Manager of Talma Peru.
One year after the start of operations at the new AIJCH, Talma reaffirms its commitment to the development of Peru’s airport sector and to consolidating this infrastructure as one of the region’s main air hubs, maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, efficiency, and operational excellence.
